CIVILIAN OPPORTUNITIES:.In addition to Police Officers, the Kenai Police Department regularly hires individuals for a wide variety of positions. Civilian employees provide many of the crucial functions of the department, such as 911 dispatching, administrative and clerical support. The Department is consistently looking for intelligent, conscientious applicants who possess a wide range of interpersonal and technological skills.PRESS RELEASE.Hunters are reminded that shooting is restricted within the city limits of Kenai. Discharging a shotgun only is allowed along the Kenai river tidal flats area, but not within 100 yards of a residential or commercial structure or road. Firearms may also be used within the city limits north of the Kenai Spur Highway from a line in the vicinity of Beaver Creek west to Marathon Road. Kenai encompasses 34 square miles.The Kenai Police Department was formed in 1969 with only three officers. Nineteen officers, eight dispatchers and support personnel currently staff it. During summer months, four seasonal enforcement officers are hired to accommodate the increase in calls for service.
