Personal Property Tax.Personal Property is every tangible thing which is owned, except real property. Real Property is defined as land, growing crops, all buildings, structures, improvements and fixtures on the land. If you are engaged in business in Ohio or have a beneficial interest in property located in Ohio on January 1, or hold an active charter or license from the Ohio Secretary of State, you must file a return. It is the duty of the Auditor's office to see that every parcel of land and the buildings thereon are fairly and uniformly appraised and then assessed for tax purposes. A general reappraisal is mandated by Ohio Law every six years and an update to those values every three years. Real property is appraised at its estimated market value. While real property in Ohio is appraised at its market value it is taxed at its assessed value which is thirty-five percent (35%) of its appraised value.
