In his current term as Sheriff, he has not skipped a step. He has appointed a veteran of Navajo Nation Police Department with 30 years of experience to spearhead the cross-commissioning task for the department. The Sheriff's uncanny ability to see the strengths and abilities of the department and utilize them for the greater good of the community is what makes him so great for McKinley County today.McKinley County Sheriff's Dept. Mission Statement. The quality of neighborhood life, its safety and welfare comes from the commitment of each of its citizens. The McKinley County Sheriffs Office takes pride in its role as a citizen of the community, providing and delivering quality law enforcement services. Frank Gonzales has been a lifelong resident of Gallup, New Mexico. He has three children, Stephanie McDaniel, Lisa Ortiz, and Carrie Jo DiAntonio, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Julian, Charlotte and Kayleigh. He is a retired Gallup Police Chief, former Sheriff and has just been re-elected as the new County Sheriff.Frank graduated from the National F.B.I Academy Washington, D.C., has been a past President of the New Mexico Police Chief Association and was appointed by the Governor King on the Committee for Jail Standards for the State of New Mexico. He championed a long overdue pay plan in efforts to return fairness to a formerly fragmented, disconnected compensation schedule. This plan served as one of the cornerstones of the fewer but better paid employees philosophy. With Franks unwavering support, the City Council agreed to revert Red Rock Park back to the State. He spearheaded the renovation and expansion of Hillcrest cemetery, using both City and County resources. Frank also served on the struggling Gallup/McKinley Jail Board, providing direction and support in recruiting valuable outside contracts to return the facility to viable, sustainable operation.
